The Band and the Choir are currently gearing up for a really exciting year! We welcome our new Band/Choir teacher, Mrs. Heidi Hooper! We look forward to rallies, games, and concerts, and we want to give Mrs. Hooper a great big WELCOME!
This site is still being built on a daily basis, so visit here often, and watch for events, concerts, and Band news! Meanwhile, you might expore our new Performing Arts Website. The Drama Workshop site is, at this time, more complete, so you might drift over there and navigate to some cool spots. Have a great year!
Ponticelli to Independence! Mr. Ken Ponticelli, who taught and and was our Musical Director for fourteen years, has taken the position at Independence High School left vacated by Mike Kambeitz, who ran Indy's music program for over 25 years. Mr. "P" received his M.A. from the Uniersity of North Texas this past May. Mr. P arrived in San Jose with enough time to help stage last Spring's Music Marathon, as well as helping the Band prepare for graduation. "Ponch" will be taking over the entire marching program, and we are excited to see that he will be maestro to one of the finest marching programs in the nation. We wish him all the luck and love in the world!
Mrs. Hooper Takes Over Music Helm at Y.B. The Y.B. Performing Arts Department can stop holding its collective breath. The arrival of Mrs. Heidi Hooper marks a new era and a bright direction for our school and for our community. Mrs. Hooper hails from Fortuna, California, a small town near Eureka. She plays sax and bassoon, and enjoys music, particularly oldies, but mostly, she enjoys her new husband, Steven (with a "v"!), who was just hired at Prospect High. Quite a life change for a newlywed couple, but also quite an adventure! She said she immediately liked Y.B. when she interviewed with Principal Dan Moser. She walked in, and saw Dan in a large summer shirt, sandals, and a nice smile. That difference made her choose Y.B. On Tuesday, August 13, Mrs. Hooper met with former Music Director Ken Ponticelli and current PA Department Chair Bud Harrington to acclimate herself to the Y.B. world. After around six hours of touring, talking, and laughing, she was ready to take on the task of bringing her unique style and personality to the Y.B. community. We welcome and appreciate Mrs. Hooper, and we wish her the very best in her new life, which has taken a decidedly exciting and dramatic turn. Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Hooper!
